In March 2024 a significant data breach occurred involving the Russian microfinance organization Adengi. The incident was part of a broader series of cyberattacks targeting multiple financial entities in the region. Security researchers identified that a database containing approximately 6.8 million unique customer records was compromised and subsequently leaked on dark web forums. The breach involved the exfiltration of sensitive personal information and security credentials. Analysis of the leaked files revealed that the data was relatively fresh and included encrypted credentials protected by the Bcrypt hashing algorithm. The scale of the leak poses a high risk of identity theft and targeted phishing campaigns against the affected clients.
