In August 2017 the Thai pop culture and anime community website Akibatan suffered a data breach. The incident resulted in the exposure of user account information from their database. The leak was primarily shared within the dark web and hacking forums as part of larger collections of breached forum data. The compromise likely occurred due to vulnerabilities in the forum software used by the site at that time allowing unauthorized access to the member tables.
