In June 2023 the Russian online pet store Akva ZooMarket experienced a significant data breach. The incident resulted in the exposure of approximately 50000 records from their customer database. The compromised data includes personal details such as email addresses, full names, and user nicknames. Additionally the breach involved the leak of passwords stored as MD5 hashes with salt which increases the risk of credential cracking and subsequent account takeovers.
