The breach occurred due to a misconfiguration in an Amazon S3 bucket which allowed unauthorized access to internal data files. The exposed data included technical logs and metadata related to customer integration processes. Security researchers discovered the exposure and alerted the company which subsequently secured the server. While Amperity serves high profile retail and travel brands the company stated that primary sensitive consumer financial data was not the main target of this specific exposure.
