In October 2011 the AndroidForums community website suffered a significant cyberattack resulting in the exposure of approximately 745000 user accounts. The security breach occurred when unauthorized individuals gained access to the forum database. The leaked information contained sensitive user details including email addresses and dates of birth. Furthermore the passwords were compromised although they were stored as MD5 hashes with salt. This incident highlighted vulnerabilities in forum software during that era and exposed a large number of early Android enthusiasts to potential credential stuffing and phishing attacks.
