Animeify

In October 2021 the anime streaming and community platform Animeify suffered a significant data breach. The incident resulted in the exposure of personal information belonging to approximately 838 thousand users. The compromised database contained sensitive details including usernames, full names, email addresses, and gender. Most critically the passwords were found to be stored in plain text format making them immediately accessible to unauthorized parties without the need for decryption. This security failure posed a high risk of account takeover for affected individuals especially those reusing credentials across other services.
