Apollo

In July 2018 the sales engagement platform Apollo formerly known as ZenProspect suffered a significant data exposure due to an unsecured database. The incident involved an Elasticsearch server left open without authentication which exposed billions of data points collected from various professional sources. The breach included 126 million unique email addresses alongside professional profiles and contact details for millions of individuals globally. This exposure highlighted risks associated with large scale data aggregators and lead generation tools that scrape public and private sources to build massive contact databases.
