Appen

In June 2020 the artificial intelligence training provider Appen suffered a significant data breach. Approximately 5.9 million user records were exposed and subsequently offered for sale on various underground forums. The security incident involved the unauthorized access to a database containing sensitive user credentials and identification details. The leaked information included email addresses and passwords hashed with the bcrypt algorithm. Additionally some records were found to contain employer phone numbers and user IP addresses which increases the risk of targeted attacks against the affected individuals.
