In June 2023 the threat actor group known as NLB leaked a significant database belonging to the major Russian publishing group AST which is part of the larger Eksmo-AST holding. The breach was publicly disclosed on June 9 and involved the exposure of sensitive customer information. The data set specifically for the AST division contained approximately 87 thousand records. The compromise involved a direct breach of the internal systems resulting in the exfiltration of personal identification details and encrypted credentials. The leaked passwords were stored using Bcrypt and MD5 with salt algorithms which provides some protection but remains a high risk for users with weak passwords.
