Aternos

In December 2015 the Aternos free Minecraft server hosting service experienced a significant data breach. The incident resulted in the exposure of approximately 1.4 million unique user records. The compromised data included sensitive information such as usernames, email addresses, and IP addresses. Additionally, passwords were leaked in a hashed format using a custom algorithm involving MD5 and SHA1 with salts. This breach highlighted vulnerabilities in older web service security practices and affected a large portion of the gaming community using free hosting solutions.
