In 2017 the Australian electronic cigarette community Aussievapers suffered a data breach that compromised the personal information of approximately 12000 members. The incident involved an unauthorized access to the forum database which was running on vBulletin software. The exposed data included member usernames email addresses and salted MD5 password hashes. This breach put users at risk of credential stuffing attacks and highlighted vulnerabilities often found in older forum software implementations.
