In February 2018 the popular Polish automotive portal AutoCentrum suffered a significant data breach. The incident resulted in the exposure of personal information belonging to approximately 164 thousand users. The leaked dataset included user email addresses and passwords stored as MD5 hashes which are considered cryptographically weak and susceptible to cracking. This breach exposed community members who used the platform for car reviews and technical discussions to potential credential stuffing attacks across other services.
