In 2015 the prominent Russian classifieds platform Avito experienced a significant data breach. The incident involved the unauthorized extraction of approximately 30 million user records from the site. The leaked data included sensitive information such as mobile phone numbers and email addresses along with user passwords stored in the insecure MD5 hashing format. Although the breach occurred many years ago the data remained within private circles for a long time and only began to circulate more broadly in early 2025. The scale of the leak highlights long term risks for users who have not updated their credentials since the event.
