In May 2020 a massive database containing information about users of the Russian classifieds platform Avito was discovered online. The incident involved approximately 9.2 million records. The data appears to have been collected via automated web scraping or parsing of public profiles rather than a direct breach of internal servers. The exposed information included personal contact details and geographic locations which could be used for targeted phishing and social engineering attacks against the affected individuals.
