In August 2022 a significant data breach involving Banorte a major Mexican financial institution surfaced on a popular hacking forum. The incident exposed approximately 2.1 million records belonging to bank customers. The leaked data included highly sensitive personal and financial identifiers such as full names physical addresses phone numbers and RFC tax identification numbers along with bank account details. This leak posed a severe security risk as the information provided could be leveraged for targeted phishing financial fraud and identity theft against Mexican citizens.
