In late 2019 the online gaming platform known as BattleAdventure experienced a significant security breach. An unauthorized party managed to gain access to the database containing sensitive user information. The incident resulted in the exposure of thousands of registered accounts including credentials and personal identifiers. Investigations suggest the breach was likely caused by a vulnerability in the web application or a misconfigured server allowing external actors to exfiltrate the user table. The leaked data was subsequently shared on various underground forums and darknet platforms specializing in gaming account trades.
