In March 2023 the Russian business social network BBNT.ru suffered a significant data breach when an unauthorized actor gained access to its user database. The incident resulted in the exposure of approximately 80000 user records. The leaked information included sensitive personal details and corporate associations. Security analysis revealed that passwords were stored using the MD5 hashing algorithm with salt which is considered cryptographically weak by modern standards. This breach poses risks of credential stuffing and targeted phishing attacks against professionals in the Russian business sector.
