BinWeevils 2014

In September 2014 the popular online gaming platform Bin Weevils suffered a significant security breach resulting in the exposure of user data. While initial reports suggested a limited impact the incident actually compromised a wide range of personal attributes for nearly 1.3 million accounts. The breach was linked to vulnerabilities in the web application allowing unauthorized access to the backend database. The leaked information included sensitive details such as plain text passwords and specific demographic data which posed a high risk to the young audience primarily using the service.
