Bolt

In March 2017 the file sharing website Bolt.cd suffered a significant security incident where a database containing sensitive user information was compromised. The breach resulted in the exposure of approximately 995 thousand unique accounts. Security researchers confirmed that the leaked records included personal identifiers such as email addresses and usernames along with technical data like IP addresses. Most critically the database contained MD5 hashed passwords with salt which are vulnerable to cracking through modern computational methods. The incident highlighted vulnerabilities in older forum and file sharing platforms regarding data storage practices and encryption standards.
