About this leak
In January 2021 the Indian online bookstore BookChor suffered a data breach that exposed information of approximately 500,000 customers. The incident involved the compromise of a database containing sensitive user details. The leaked data included full names email addresses phone numbers physical addresses and dates of birth. Furthermore security researchers identified that passwords were stored using the weak MD5 hashing algorithm without salt making them highly vulnerable to cracking. The leak originated from a security vulnerability in the platforms infrastructure that allowed unauthorized access to the customer database.
