In October 2024 the National Insurance Institute of Israel known as BTL experienced a data breach involving approximately 30000 records. The incident exposed sensitive personal information of citizens registered with the social security and pension savings agency. The leaked data includes full names, phone numbers, and various identification documents. This breach poses a significant risk for targeted phishing and identity theft against Israeli residents. Preliminary investigations suggest the data was extracted from public facing systems or through a security vulnerability in their digital infrastructure.
