In February 2015 the fan community website BuffyForums.net suffered a significant data breach. The incident led to the exposure of the entire user database containing sensitive personal information. The breach occurred due to vulnerabilities in the forum software allowing unauthorized access to the underlying database. The leaked records included account credentials and personal identifiers of thousands of fans of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. Many of these credentials were later found circulating in various credential stuffing lists across the dark web.
