In December 2020 a database breach of the Russian online publication Business-Gazeta occurred. An unauthorized third party gained access to the backend systems resulting in the exposure of sensitive user information. The incident impacted approximately 64 thousand registered users. The leaked data included personal identifiers and security credentials. Passwords were stored using the BCRYPT hashing algorithm but were part of the exposed dataset. This breach highlights the persistent risks faced by media organizations and the importance of robust database security measures to protect subscriber information.
