CallOfGods 2016

In late 2016 the official forum of the browser based game Call of Gods experienced a significant security incident. This breach resulted in the exposure of sensitive user data from approximately 640000 registered participants. The compromised information included member email addresses and usernames along with IP addresses recorded during site activity. Most critically the database contained user passwords stored as salted MD5 hashes using the vBulletin hashing algorithm which is considered vulnerable to modern cracking techniques. The incident highlighted security weaknesses in legacy forum software environments often targeted by malicious actors for credential harvesting.
