In March 2020 the Brazilian job search platform Catho suffered a significant data breach. The incident involved the compromise of approximately 1.1 million user records which later appeared on various darknet forums alongside other hacked databases. The breach was particularly severe because user credentials including passwords were stored and subsequently leaked in plain text format. This security failure exposed job seekers to credential stuffing and identity theft risks across the Brazilian market.
