In early 2022 the decentralized oracle network Chainlink experienced a data security incident involving a marketing service provider. The breach impacted approximately 6000 users who had participated in a pre-order process. The exposed data included personal identifiers such as email addresses linked to specific Ethereum wallet addresses and their corresponding ETH balances. This incident highlighted risks associated with third party service integrations within the crypto ecosystem although the core blockchain infrastructure remained secure and unaffected by the event.
