In late 2019 the Indonesian ecommerce platform Chrono77 experienced a significant security breach. Unauthorized actors gained access to the store database resulting in the exposure of customer information. The incident involved the compromise of approximately 300000 records. Leaked data included user emails nicknames and IP addresses. Additionally passwords were found to be stored using the MD5 hashing algorithm which is considered cryptographically weak and susceptible to cracking. The breach highlights vulnerabilities in legacy hashing methods and the targeting of regional retail sites by cybercriminals.
