In 2021 the online forum CigReviews suffered a significant data security incident that compromised the personal information of its community members. The breach affected approximately 154 thousand users who had registered on the platform. The leaked data originated from a vBulletin forum database and included sensitive details such as usernames email addresses and IP addresses. Additionally birth dates and passwords stored using vBulletin hashing algorithms were exposed. The incident highlights vulnerabilities often found in older forum software versions which attackers exploit to extract complete user databases for redistribution in the darknet community.
