In April 2021 the market research company ClearVoice Surveys suffered a significant data exposure when a backup of their 2015 database was inadvertently made public. The incident revealed sensitive personal information of millions of users. The exposed data was stored in a plaintext format which significantly increased the risk of unauthorized access and misuse. The breach originated from an unprotected database backup file that was discovered by security researchers and later circulated within the hacking community. The dataset included comprehensive user profiles and authentication details that were several years old but still remained relevant for many active participants.
