The ClashOfClansBuilder website which provided base layouts and strategies for the popular mobile game experienced a significant data breach in early 2021. An unauthorized actor managed to gain access to the backend database of the now defunct service. The incident resulted in the public exposure of approximately 880 thousand user accounts. The compromised information included sensitive details such as email addresses, unique usernames, and IP addresses. Additionally, user passwords were leaked in MD5 hash format which is considered cryptographically weak and susceptible to cracking using modern hardware.
