About this leak
In August 2017 the cryptocurrency exchange platform Coinmama suffered a significant data breach that was later identified as part of a larger collection of breaches involving multiple websites. The incident resulted in the unauthorized access to a database containing sensitive information of approximately 450000 users. Security researchers discovered that the leaked credentials included email addresses and usernames along with passwords hashed using the older WordPress MD5 algorithm which is considered vulnerable to modern cracking techniques. The breach was publicly disclosed in early 2019 when the data appeared for sale on dark web marketplaces alongside dozens of other compromised databases.
