In 2020 during the peak of the global pandemic a major data breach occurred involving a specialized digital register used for tracking movements and issuing travel certificates to curb the spread of coronavirus. The database contained highly sensitive information including full names, passport details, email addresses, phone numbers, places of employment, and specific travel routes. Unauthorized parties managed to gain access to the system resulting in the exposure of approximately 12.8 million individual records. This incident raised significant privacy concerns as it exposed private health related movement logs and government identity data to the public domain.
