CrossFire

In August 2016 the Russian gaming forum for the first person shooter CrossFire suffered a massive data breach along with several other Mail.ru properties. The incident involved the compromise of a vBulletin database containing millions of user records. Security researchers identified that the breach exposed sensitive user credentials including email addresses and passwords stored as MD5 salted hashes. The scale of the hack was significant making it one of the largest gaming community breaches at the time often linked to a broader campaign targeting Russian internet services.
