In January 2021 the Russian ballroom dancing portal DanceSport.ru suffered a data breach. An unauthorized actor accessed the platform database and exposed sensitive information of over 17 thousand registered users. The leaked data includes email addresses, usernames, IP addresses, and dates of birth. Additionally, passwords stored as MD5 hashes with salts were compromised. This incident highlights vulnerabilities in legacy hashing algorithms and poses a risk of credential stuffing and targeted phishing for members of the dance community in Russia.
