In early 2021, a significant data security incident affected the Washington State Auditor Office via the Accellion File Transfer Appliance vulnerability. This breach exposed sensitive information hosted on the data.wa.gov infrastructure. The incident involved the unauthorized access of files containing personal information of approximately 1.6 million people who filed unemployment claims in 2020.
