In early 2021 the design and creative services platform Design2u.ru experienced a significant data security incident. An unauthorized party gained access to the database containing information for approximately 41 thousand registered users. The breach involved the exposure of sensitive personal identifiers and authentication credentials. Technical analysis indicates that while passwords were stored as MD5 hashes with salt they remain vulnerable to cracking attempts. The incident highlights common vulnerabilities in legacy hashing algorithms and the persistent targeting of creative and niche service platforms by threat actors seeking user credentials.
