In August 2014 the Diet.com service suffered a significant data breach affecting approximately 1.4 million unique users with records dating back to 2004. The security incident resulted in the exposure of sensitive personal information including dietary habits and body mass index data. The breach occurred due to vulnerabilities that allowed unauthorized access to the user database. Impacted individuals faced risks related to identity theft and privacy loss as the leaked data contained plain text passwords which were not properly encrypted or hashed by the platform at the time.
