In early 2024 the Venezuelan telecommunications giant Digitel suffered a significant ransomware attack by the Medusa group. The attackers managed to infiltrate the internal network and exfiltrate over 6 gigabytes of sensitive data after the company refused to pay a 5 million dollar ransom. The leaked information includes internal documents, employee records with personal identification, financial reports, and various corporate credentials. This breach highlights the vulnerability of critical national infrastructure to sophisticated ransomware operations targeting Latin American service providers.
