In November 2013 the Russian Minecraft fan community website 8minecraft experienced an unauthorized data breach. The incident resulted in the exposure of personal information belonging to approximately 54 thousand registered users. The compromised data included usernames, email addresses, geographical regions, and IP addresses. Furthermore, user passwords were leaked in an insecure MD5 hash format without any salt making them highly vulnerable to decryption through brute force or rainbow table attacks. The breach highlights the risks associated with outdated hashing algorithms in early gaming communities.
