8tracks

In June 2017 the internet radio and social networking service 8tracks suffered a significant security breach. An unauthorized party gained access to a backup of the user database hosted on a Github repository. The incident resulted in the exposure of approximately 18 million accounts. The compromised data included email addresses and salted SHA1 password hashes. The company officially notified users and recommended password changes after identifying the source of the leak as an improperly secured backup file.
