In February 2016 the Elvinelol forum which was dedicated to World of Warcraft community discussions suffered a significant data breach. The incident resulted in the exposure of sensitive information belonging to approximately 10700 registered members. The breach occurred due to vulnerabilities within the vBulletin forum software leading to the unauthorized access and extraction of the user database. Exposed data included personal identifiers and security credentials stored as salted hashes which posed a risk of credential cracking and account takeover across other platforms using similar passwords.
