About this leak
In late 2020 the digital advertising platform Eskimi suffered a significant data breach resulting in the exposure of approximately 2.6 million user records. The incident led to the public disclosure of sensitive information including personal details and account credentials. Security researchers identified that the leaked database contained around 1.2 million unique email addresses. The breach was particularly severe because user passwords were stored using the outdated MD5 hashing algorithm without any salt making them highly vulnerable to rainbow table attacks and brute force decryption. This event highlighted critical weaknesses in the platforms data protection and encryption standards at the time.
