In 2021 the forum Espiya.net which specialized in espionage and surveillance topics suffered a significant data breach. The security incident resulted in the exposure of approximately 200000 user accounts. The leaked database contained sensitive information including usernames email addresses IP addresses and geographic locations. Additionally the data included user passwords stored as SHA1 salted hashes. This breach potentially compromised the anonymity of users interested in surveillance and operational security topics making them targets for further cyber attacks.
