In early 2016 the popular Minecraft server EvgexaCraft suffered a significant security breach resulting in the exposure of its user database. The incident led to the unauthorized release of sensitive information belonging to approximately 338000 players. The leaked data includes email addresses, real names, nicknames, IP addresses, and passwords stored as MD5 hashes. Due to the weak encryption method used for password storage attackers were able to decrypt nearly 297000 passwords almost immediately. The decrypted credentials were subsequently shared in public domain forums making the accounts highly vulnerable to hijacking and credential stuffing attacks on other platforms.
