Evony

In June 2016 the popular multiplayer online strategy game Evony suffered a massive data breach affecting millions of players worldwide. The incident was attributed to an unauthorized access of the gaming service database. The compromise exposed sensitive user information including account credentials and network identifiers. Security researchers found that the passwords were stored using the weak MD5 hashing algorithm without salt making them highly vulnerable to decryption. This breach highlighted significant security flaws in how the platform managed user authentication and data protection at the time.
