In early March 2024 the Russian genealogical social network FamilySpace experienced a significant security breach resulting in the exposure of approximately 5.5 million user records. The incident involved unauthorized access to the platform internal database. Leaked information includes personal identifiers such as full names and email addresses. Additionally the dataset contains sensitive genealogical details like mothers maiden names and security credentials stored as MD5 password hashes which are considered cryptographically weak and susceptible to cracking.
