In December 2015 the forum known as TheFappening.so which focused on celebrity image leaks suffered a major security breach. An unauthorized third party managed to compromise the forum database resulting in the exposure of approximately 179000 registered user accounts. The incident involved the publication of sensitive member data including account credentials. The breach was significant due to the controversial nature of the community and the exposure of personal information belonging to its participants. Security researchers confirmed that the leaked files contained cryptographic hashes of passwords along with unique identifiers for each user. This event highlighted the risks associated with participating in niche forums and the potential for targeted attacks on communities hosting sensitive or explicit content.
