In 2018 a significant data breach occurred at the Mandatory Medical Insurance Fund of the Sakhalin Region in Russia. The incident resulted in the exposure of sensitive information belonging to approximately 360000 insured individuals. The leak included personally identifiable information such as full names birth dates contact numbers residential addresses and details regarding their employment and specific medical insurance policy numbers. This breach posed a serious risk to the privacy of citizens within the region as it exposed both personal and professional data points that could be used for identity theft or targeted social engineering attacks.
