In May 2016 the online gaming platform known as Army Force Online experienced a significant data breach. Approximately 1.5 million user accounts were compromised during this security incident. The leaked database contained sensitive information including unique usernames and email addresses. Additionally the breach exposed IP addresses and passwords which were stored using the MD5 hashing algorithm which is now considered cryptographically weak and susceptible to cracking. This incident highlighted vulnerabilities in the game infrastructure and put users at risk of credential stuffing attacks across other platforms.
