Fotostrana a popular Russian social discovery and dating platform experienced a massive data collection event in 2022. An external party used automated scraping and parsing techniques to harvest profile information from the website. The initial dataset contained 80 million lines of data but was later refined to 36 million unique records after removing duplicates and empty entries. The incident highlights the vulnerability of public social profiles to large scale automated data extraction even without a direct system breach or unauthorized access to internal servers.
